The Chosen Bride

The mist comes early to Ashvale, curling between the headstones like something that has not quite decided whether to breathe. Elara Vey slips through the broken gate at the cemetery's eastern edge, where the iron has rusted into lace and no one bothers to mend it anymore, because no one comes here except the dead and the girl who listens to them.

Dusk bruises the sky above the hills, purple shading into a deep, wounded blue.
