The clatter of silverware against porcelain echoed sharply in the dining room, a hollow soundtrack to the evening’s tension. Daisy sat rigidly at the polished mahogany table, fingers curled tightly around the stem of her water glass. Each sip felt like swallowing shards of glass, the cool liquid doing little to soothe the ache blossoming in her chest. “Honestly, Daisy,” her father began, voice clipped and laced with impatience, “this whole design nonsense—it’s a fantasy. You’re chasing something fleeting, something you won’t be able to sustain.”
Her mother’s lips pursed, nodding in agreement. “We’ve always hoped you’d choose a more practical path. Law, medicine, business—something with stability. This… this art thing? It’s a luxury, not a career.”
