The Vine of a Thousand Voices

The sun has barely begun its climb over the jungle canopy when Luna's whiskers twitch against a stray beam of golden light. She yawns, wide and unashamed, showing every one of her small, sharp teeth, and rolls onto her back in the soft heap of dried grass she calls a bed. Her den smells the way it always does at this hour — of warm earth, crushed leaves, and the faint sweetness of the fruit trees just beyond her doorway. It is, in every way, an ordinary morning. Or so she thinks.

"Time to greet the day!" she announces to no one in particular, springing up onto all four paws with the kind of energy only a young lioness seems to possess before breakfast. She shakes out her golden mane, gives her tail a satisfied flick, and marches to the mouth of her den, where the jungle spreads before her in every shade of green imaginable.

Luna takes a deep breath, filling her lungs completely, and lets out her morning roar — a great, joyful sound that rolls across the treetops like thunder wrapped in sunshine.
